How it All Began: My Military Spouse Journey Part 1

How it All Began: My Military Spouse Journey Part 1

Hi!  I'm Serena. I'm a mom, a believer, an entrepreneur...and a military spouse.  As I continue to grow and learn on the journey of being all of those things (and more), I realize more and more how important it is to acknowledge all parts of your story and how they come together to shape who you are.

First thing's first: One thing I did not set out to be?

A blogger.

I mean, have you seen and read some of the blogs out there these days—seriously, AMAZING.  I can’t promise you that you will be amazed by stunning photography or incredible how-tos, but I hope to create a place where you can feel inspired and encouraged as we walk this road of being military spouses together. In short,

I've taken my own advice and decided to JUST START.

If you'll humor me, I'd like to take you on a (brief) 6 part journey through how I got to where I am now: here, cheering you on, knowing that there is so much value in choosing to bloom and live like you're already there.  Life is way too short to wait to build strong relationships, create spaces you love and to start becoming the best version of yourself.

So...let’s start at the beginning…

My husband and I first met in elementary school.  (So cute, right?!) Because he’s a few years older than I am, I didn’t see him again until my first day of 8th grade.  I got on the bus and none of the other high schoolers seemed interested in sitting with me. My husband (we’ll call him B), spoke up and said I could sit with him.  Let’s just say I breathed a sigh of relief and discovered I was completely smitten all at the same time. That evening, I came home and wrote in my diary

No joke.  How I knew that at 13, I don’t know.  Did I believe it could actually happen?  Who knows? But several years of friendship later, we started dating the summer before my senior year, shortly after I received a note that looked a lot like this:

After 5 years of dating long distance, including him being in Korea almost the entire year leading up to our wedding, we got married.  300+ of our closest family and friends cheered us on and we both excitedly (and naively) started this thing called married life. The catch?  I had no idea just how intricately woven “his” military life would become with mine and just how much growing and changing it would require...

I hope you'll join me next week for the next part of my story!
Thanks for hanging out with me for a bit!
